The president of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), Abdulla Shahid, was meeting around noon with President Luis Abinader.
He arrived at the National Palace accompanied by a retinue and was immediately taken to the government’s private room located on the third floor.
Shahid’s arrival caused the security of the Presidential Guard to close the doors of the main entrance of the government house, which surprised all the journalists who cover the palatial fountain before this they tried to prevent the arrival from being recorded, a situation that forced the intervention of Jorge Taveras, so that the doors were opened again.
The president of the assembly traveled to the country on Thursday in order to meet with senior government officials and civil society organizations.
According to what has transpired, Abinader and Shahid talk about the country’s progress in the face of economic recovery and tourism development after the Covid-19 pandemic.
This Friday afternoon, Shahid will receive an award from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Álvarez, at the Foreign Ministry headquarters, prior to a working lunch in which they will address issues of sustainability and the environment.
Last Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex) indicated that “this meeting continues to strengthen our regional and multilateral leadership, which represents a fundamental purpose of Dominican foreign policy.”
During this visit, the also Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives will visit the facilities of the Supérate Program, to learn about the projects that are promoted by the State.
the president of the UN Assembly will hold a discussion with civil society, organized by the United Nations country team.
He will also attend a dinner with young parliamentarians, offered by the Dominican ambassador to the UN, José Blanco.
This Saturday Shahid will travel to the city of La Romana, where he will visit the Hogar del Niño, and then will tour the Casa de Campo Resort and Altos de Chavón.
He will end his agenda with a visit to the Grupo Punta Cana Foundation, returning to New York City on Sunday.
