President Luis Abinader headed this Thursday the delivery of 30 ambulances that were acquired through a tender by the Administrative Ministry of the Presidency at a cost of more than 60 million pesos that will go to different health centers in municipalities and provinces of the country.
The delivery was made with the presence of the provincial governors in a ceremony that took place on the front esplanade of the National Palace. The keys were delivered to retired General Juan Manuel Méndez, director of Emergencies.
During the act, the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, specified that some five or six national companies participated in the bidding process and that the purchase was made to the most economical bidder.
“The important thing about these vehicles is not the vehicle itself, but the equipment and even, in the cost component of these equipment, the vehicle itself tends to be more important,” said the official.
Minister Paliza said that the important thing is not the vehicle but its components that are to save lives, in addition to being used to equip emergency care centers that have not received new equipment for ten years.
He specified that during that period most of the hospitals did not have adequate equipment to supply the service and explained that these ambulances will join other teams from the Ministry of Public Works and 911.
General Méndez maintained that the ambulances will fulfill a task of handling inter-hospital emergencies and assured that they will hire and train personnel for their proper handling, on the instructions of President Abinader.
The places where they will be Verón, Punta Cana, in the Primary Care Unit; in La Romana, at the Guaymate Hospital; the Seibo, in the Teofimo Hernsndez municipal hospital; Hato Mayor, El Valle municipal hospital; In San Pedro de Macoris, at the Ángel Ponce hospital; in Monte Plata, Ángel Contreras hospital; in the municipal hospital of Guerra; in the municipal hospital of Cambita; in Nizao, municipal hospital, among others.
