5 key facts you should know about Héctor Grisi: Santander's future global CEO

“I have had the great opportunity to lead a team of more than 25,000 people that transformed the operation and culture of Banco Santander México, despite living in a very complex environment. Now I assume my new responsibility to lead a team of almost 200,000 people around the world and continue building the best global financial services platform,” said Grisi Checa in a statement on Friday.

Here are some key facts about this Mexican banker.

1. He studied Finance at the Universidad Iberoamericana where he graduated with honors.

2. From 1991 to 1997, he held various positions in the Invermexico Financial Group, in the investment and corporate banking divisions. Previously, he worked at Casa de Bolsa Inverlat, in the corporate banking department.

3. He was CEO and CEO of Credit Suisse Financial Group (Mexico) between 2001 and 2015.

4. He also served as Vice President of the Association of Mexican Banks (ABM).

5. Last March, Expansión had the opportunity to interview him and where he highlighted his long-term vision in Mexico, which would be focused on offering digital products for his clients.

“My letter to Santa Claus is to do away with checks – I hate checks – and do away with cash. I hope we achieve that part and we will do it to the extent that we achieve more inclusion when people understand that having money in the bank is easier Hector Grisi said.

Regarding a possible purchase of Banamex, Grisi said that first they have to review the purchase conditions and while that happens, they will focus on their business plan to conquer the market.

“You have to see who they are going to let participate and under what conditions because you have to understand how market consolidations are, depending on who buys, in the end it will be good for the financial system, it will become a more competitive market” , he highlighted.

To attract more market, Santander will stop looking for the highest segments and is now going for the middle class.
