Maduro hopes to start 'positive relations' with the next Colombian government

Venezuelan President Nicolas Madurospoke to Al-Jazeera and expressed his confidence that the president who is elected in Colombia on June 19 promote a path of positive bilateral relations.

“I hope that the government that arrives in Colombia start a path for positive relations with Venezuela”, expressed Maduro who recalled the breakdown of bilateral communications since February 2019.

After this comment, Maduro indicated that would not delve further into his statements on the presidential elections in Colombia assuring that out of respect they will not make major pronouncements and they only hope “that their people decide in a sovereign way”.

Previously, during the first presidential round, Maduro also expressed his desire that the next president of Colombia seeks to resume contacts between the two countries.
