Daniel Salinas ran to lead the Pan American Health Organization

The Minister of Public Health, Daniel Salinas, applied to be the new director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), a position that will be appointed at the next conference to be held between September 26 and 30 of this year. .

The following experts compete for the position:

  • Dr. Camilo Alleyne (presented by Panama)
  • Dr. Jarbas Barbosa Da Silva Jr. (presented by Brazil)
  • Dr. Florence Duperval Guillaume (presented by Haiti)
  • Dr. Nadine Flora Gasman Zylbermann (presented by Mexico)
  • Dr. Fernando Ruiz Gómez (presented by Colombia)
  • Dr. Daniel Salinas (presented by Uruguay)

The President of the Executive Committee of PAHO communicated to the Member States, Participating States, and Associate Members of PAHO the letters of introduction, together with the detailed curriculum presented by each candidate.

The new director will be chosen from among the candidates, winning the one who receives the most votes from the Member States.

“According to the PAHO Constitution, the Director will serve a five-year term and may be re-elected once. The person elected will take office on February 1, 2023 and will complete his term on January 31, 2028,” says PAHO on its website.
