The Weekly Consumer Price Index (IPC-S), calculated by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), ended May this year with an inflation of 0.50%. The rate is lower than those observed in the previous month (1.08%) and in May 2021 (0.81%). As a result, the IPC-S accumulates inflation of 10.28% in 12 months.
According to FGV, four of the eight classes of expenditure analyzed by the survey had a drop in the inflation rate from April to May, including food (which fell from 1.58% to 0.45% in the period) and transport (from 2.13 % to 1.02%).
Other groups that registered a lower inflation rate were health and personal care (from 1.14% to 0.87%) and clothing (from 1.26% to 1.21%).
Two groups registered even sharper deflation (price fall) than in the previous month: housing (which went from -0.69% to -1.37%) and communication (from -0.02% to -0.14% ).
On the other hand, two groups had an increase in the rate: education, reading and recreation (which rose from 2.51% to 3.12%) and miscellaneous expenses (from 0.70% to 0.91%).
