Eletronuclear disconnects Angra 1 from the National Interconnected System

Eletronuclear announced, this Tuesday (31), that it disconnected the Angra 1 nuclear plant from the National Interconnected System (SIN). According to the state-owned company, the action was necessary to allow a preventive change of the valve of a pressurizer, in the main circuit of the plant.Eletronuclear disconnects Angra 1 from the National Interconnected System

“On Sunday (29), at 12:12 am, Eletronuclear disconnected the Angra 1 nuclear plant from the National Interconnected System to carry out the preventive replacement of a pressurizer valve, equipment located in the unit’s main circuit. This is a scheduled stop, in agreement with the National Electric System Operator (ONS), with an expected duration of 10 days,” the company said in a statement.

Angra 1 and 2 plants generate energy equivalent to approximately 3% of the electricity consumed in the country and 40% of the consumption in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Angra 1 has a capacity of 640 megawatts (MW) and Angra 2, 1,350 MW.

In 2021, both generated together 14.7 million megawatt hours (MWh). This total is capable of serving about 5.8 million inhabitants or all public lighting in Brazil for an entire year.
