Andrade also said that they will be raising the need for a wage increase for all workers, including those in the public and private sectors, and they also condemn the reforms to the labor code promoted by the government to benefit employers.
Workers’ unions have come together to carry out a march this Thursday afternoon, towards the Presidency of the Republic, in order to deliver a list of demands given the high cost of living.
Marco Andrade, general secretary of the National Confederation of Independent Union Unity (Conusi), stressed that said list is made up of 29 requests that include curbing high prices for fuel, medicines, the basic family basket, a solution to the problem of the Caja de Social Security, guarantee national production, a solution to the problem of public security, that Panama be a neutral country and not get involved in international war issues, among others.
Andrade also said that they will be raising the need for a wage increase for all workers, including those in the public and private sectors, and they also condemn the reforms to the labor code promoted by the government to benefit employers. “Since 1981 there has not been a general salary increase, and since 2015 the minimum wage has not been adjusted for public employers and their situation has worsened,” he said.
