The members of the Unity for Columbus Coalition (CUCO) are awaiting the arrival of President Laurentino Cortizo in the province, after holding the fourth day of general strike this Thursday.
Edgardo Voitier, leader of CUCO, stated on Radio Panama that through a call they were confirmed that this Thursday, between noon and part of the afternoon, Cortizo would be attending to the coalition’s request.
“We remain in Cuatro Altos with the different organizations to wait for this meeting, which has not yet been confirmed where it will be held,” he said.
The leaders have requested that this meeting and the agreements that are reached be broadcast by SERTV and other media, with the aim that everything be handled in a transparent manner.
These CUCO protests arise from the demand for the increase in fuel that has led to a rise in prices, as well as better living conditions for the province and the reactivation of several projects of social interest.
During the four days there were clashes between the demonstrators and the National Police, the latter using tear gas and rubber bullets against people who protested in various parts of Colón. The balance of the conflict left a unit with a gunshot wound.
