The results published in May Consumer Magazine points out that among some of the irregularities, it was found that the Nature’s Life brand. Hydrolyzed Collagen + L-Ornithine & Vitamin C Food Supplement (Mexico) 70.3 g (100 capsules) had less than 10.2% of what was declared in net content, for which it does not comply with NOM-002-SCFI-2011 on prepackaged products, net content -tolerances and verification methods.
The analysis, which included 288 tests, evaluated commercial information, that is, that each product complied with the provisions of the Sanitary Control Regulation for Products and Services, which requests −among other aspects− generic and specific denomination; list of ingredients; as well as the component or components that could represent a mediate or immediate risk to health.
In addition, the nutritional declaration (protein, fat, sugars, carbohydrates, energy content) was reviewed; batch, expiration date, name and address of the manufacturer or importer, packer, maquiladora, national or foreign distributor; and instructions for its conservation, use, preparation and consumption.
Collagens that do not meet what their label says
The following products could also be subject to a sanction, because they do not support their legends; on their packaging they present legends that they did not show:
- solanum. NATURAL SCIENCE. Nutritional supplement. Collagen + Vitamins and Minerals (Mexico) 90 g (180 capsules of 500 mg) has the legend: “Collagen Solanum No. 1 in sales”.
- NEOCELL. Nutritional supplement. Hydrolyzed Collagen (United States) 198 g. “Super Collagen”; “NO GMO”; “6.6 g collagen Type 1 and 3” and “No artificial flavors”.
- My Daily Fiber. Food Supplement Collagen powder (Mexico) 300 g. “My Daily Fiber Brand Collagen is a food supplement for adults and children over 4 years of age.”
