Universal Music defines it as an “EP”, an acronym for “extended play” in English or a medium-length album, although in reality its length is more typical of a single and it lacks its own title.
“It was born of friendship” after the two coincided in the gym and Sheeran recognized Balvin’s voice. “What started as a conversation turned into a genuine friendship, and a collaboration was born almost immediately,” the press release explains.
In that statement, both artists refer to these two songs as “the first two songs we put together”, so this could only be the preview of more joint work that sees the light in the future.
“We have a coffee, we talk about life and we stay with a chimba vibe, talking from the simplest to how to be a father,” says Balvin in statements collected by Universal.
From the crossroads of their various influences, “Sigue” has emerged, which the record company qualifies as “a happy reggaeton and dance song”, and “Forever My Love”, “a beautiful love ballad”.
“He wanted to take me into his world and I wanted to take him into mine. It was a real challenge to learn Spanish for this and I had a lot of fun doing it. I hope you like it as much as I do and stay tuned for everything to come,” Sheeran adds in the press release.
The Briton, who released his most recent album, “= (Equals)” in 2021, is one of the most commercially successful artists in the world since the publication of his debut, “+ (Plus)” (2011), at which were followed by “x (Multiply)” (2014), “÷ (Divide)” (2017), and “No.6 Collaborations Project” (2019).
In fact, with 79 million monthly listeners, he is the leading artist on Spotify worldwide and the second, only behind Adele, of the most commercially successful musical artists of the past decade, according to the Media Traffic portal.
Not far behind is the Colombian J Balvin, who in 2021 released his fifth album, “Jose”, and who with his 51 million monthly listeners is in fourteenth place, being the first artist in Spanish in the “ranking” of the Swedish audio platform.
