Fluminense landed in this Thursday (17) in the morning in Rio de Janeiro, under protests. A group of approximately twenty people went to the Tom Jobim International Airport to receive the Tricolor Carioca delegation, which was returning from Paraguay after being eliminated by Olimpia in the second round of the preliminary round of the Copa Libertadores da América. There was a fight and confusion between security guards and fans.
On Wednesday night (16), at the crowded Defensores Del Chaco stadium, in the capital Asunción, the Brazilians lost to the hosts by 2-0 in normal time. As in the first game, Flu won 3-1, the decision went to penalties, won by Olímpia 4-1.
“We played more withdrawn, but we came in with three speed forwards. I can’t explain it, the desolation is great”, laments Abel Braga, coach of Tricolor Carioca.
With the elimination of the continental competition, Fluminense will no longer receive three million dollars (about R$ 15 million) in prize money from Conmebol. Tricolor will now compete in the Copa Sudamericana, but before returning to the field for the semifinals of the Carioca Championship to face Botafogo next Monday (21).
