On the ninth day of Operation Arcángel Miguel, the National Border Service (Senafront) has made significant progress in the fight against criminal networks in the Darién region. In collaboration with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of the Environment, authorities discovered a clandestine camp located between the Tacartí and Membrillo rivers, in the sector known as Dos Bocas.
This camp, linked to the exploitation of migrants and illicit activities, has been identified as a key point in the chain of criminal economies that profit from the suffering and desperation of migrants guided by coyotes from the Caribbean coasts.
The camp was linked to a range of related crimes, including prostitution, drug dealing and extortion, and had ties to the Clan del Golfo criminal group. During the operation, authorities seized seven Starlink satellite dishes, which were suspected of being used to coordinate and facilitate these illicit activities. This discovery represents an important step forward in efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the region.
Senafront will continue to reinforce its presence in the area to intensify surveillance and territorial control, with the aim of eradicating any form of illegality and preventing migrants from resorting to clandestine camps. Authorities have reminded the migrant population that the only humanitarian corridor authorized to enter Darién is the one that connects Cañas Blancas with Bajo Chiquito.
A firm commitment will be maintained to ensure security and order in the region, and those responsible for the establishment and operation of these illegal camps will be brought to justice.
