Assault against street vendor reported at the Oriental Market

A street pizza vendor was physically assaulted at the Mercado Oriental, the largest shopping center in Nicaragua, Nicaraguans reported by sharing videos on their social networks. The incident took place on August 31. In the images, the woman appears with a wound on her forehead.

The woman, whose identity is unknown, was allegedly attacked by the owner of the Moda y Diseño store in the Mercado Oriental, after he demanded that she remove her pizza cart from the front of her store, according to information published online.

The merchant was serving some customers, but – according to the publications – the subject, seeing that the citizen was not moving her stall, began to insult her and hit her with a mop, causing a wound on her forehead.

Other vendors and customers at the Oriental Market approached the woman and defended her from the alleged attacker. Some even went to the Fashion and Design section to demand that the man be a “man” and face someone who could “respond” to his blows.

«Don’t buy from abusive people»

Following the incident, several simultaneous campaigns against the business were launched on the evening of August 31, urging the public to stop shopping there, alleging that the owner is “an abuser.”

Other social media users took the opportunity to complain about the “poor service” at the Moda y Diseño store in the Mercado Oriental.

They also invited the street vendor to report the attack, reminding her that “everyone has the right to work and earn a living.”

Article 66 We tried to contact the street vendor and the business linked to the incident to find out both versions of what happened, but as of the publication of this report, neither had responded to our messages.
