Lacalle participated this Wednesday, February 16, in the beginning of works on the bridge that will connect Treinta y Tres with Rocha, through the Cebollatí River.
In conversation with the press, the president assured that there is a commitment on the part of the government of “salary recovery in the period and the sooner it can be done the better.”
He added: “This means that Uruguay’s numbers are good and also that employment is generated. It also means that we manage public resources in an austere and efficient manner so that the increases can be given. If there is more work, as there will be, when the Salary Councils meet, the salary recovery will be carried out”.
When questioned about the loss of purchasing power of workers and retirees, he replied that “jobs were lost and a significant number of Uruguayans lived in poverty levels.”
“It is a global crisis, a pandemic. But now one sees that we have significantly lower unemployment than in February 2020, when it exceeded 10%. Today we are somewhat above 7% and, in addition, many children have come out of poverty, ”he said.
Without taxation
Lacalle remarked that in Uruguay, a country that was indebted and had a deficit, the pandemic is taking 1.7 billion dollars.”
“The commitment that many did not believe in was fulfilled, because people who are in the opposition today said that if the multicolored coalition won, they would impose taxes. Many countries to support the expenses of the pandemic imposed taxes. Uruguay invested money in the pandemic, no taxes were imposed and, in addition, the fiscal goals were met, and that speaks of respect for Uruguayans’ money.
