Given the extreme cold that Inumet predicted, the MSP gave some recommendations

Inumet's weather forecast for this Saturday, June 10

Before the “low temperatures forecast” by the Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (inumet) for this weekend, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) made, through a video on its Twitter account, “a series of recommendations to face these days of extreme cold with the aim of preserving health and preventing possible damage”.

The portfolio separated its recommendations into three topics: shelter, food and heating.

Coat

First of all, the MSP pointed out to the population that they have to protect themselves “with appropriate clothing, in multiple layers.”

He stressed the importance of cover “face, ears, hands and feet” and remembered that hehe “hats help maintain body temperature.”

Feeding

On the other hand, the portfolio pointed to food and asked to avoid “consumption of excessive calories and alcoholic beverages” because “doing so increases the risk of hypothermia.”

He also recommended consuming “abundant water and liquids to stay hydrated: soup, tea, coffee and mate”; as well as “natural or minimally processed foods for a balanced diet.” In this regard, he asked to eat “cooked, boiled, baked, sautéed or stewed fruits and vegetables”which ideally are “of station”.

Heating

The ministry stressed the importance of check “heating equipment by qualified technicians before starting to use it” and keep “open a door or window while the heating equipment is on”.

“Never leave a computer on if there is no one supervising it. Turn it off while they sleep. Keep heating equipment away from objects that can catch fire and avoid using combustion with alcohol or gasoline.”, adds the information.

Many fire deaths occur from heating systems. The National Directorate of Firefighters also has a series of recommendations and care to take into account to be able to heat the house in winter.

Numbers by people living on the streets

Finally, the video on Twitter of the portfolio reminds the contacts to those who communicate if they see a person on the street.

In Montevideo there is the telephone 0800 8798 and also the possibility to write to WhatsApp 092910000

Inside, contact must be made through the Departmental Emergency Coordination Center (Cecoed) of each department or to 911.

These routes are available every day of the week, 24 hours a day.

Inumet: Very cold mornings and very cool afternoons

Even beyond this weekend, Inumet predicted a drop in temperature with low thermal sensations and “the occurrence of morning frosts“Since last Friday the 14th -day when the arrival of intense cold was already felt- to Wednesday 19.

The forecast indicated that temperatures would fluctuate between 1°C and 13°C.

These temperatures, although drops are expected with “very cold mornings and very cool afternoons”, they do not comply with the condition of remaining for at least three consecutive days below the thresholds considered for the issuance of a cold snap
