Cabinet approves agreements that reinforce international cooperation in the fight against cybercrime

The Cabinet Council authorized this Tuesday the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Janaina Tewaney Mencomo, to present to the National Assembly for ratification two agreements that seek to strengthen mutual cooperation between Panama and other countries in the fight against cybercrime and transnational organized crime. .

In the session headed by the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen and the Vice President, José Gabriel Carrizo, authorization was given to bring before the Legislative Assembly the Ibero-American Cooperation Agreement on Investigation, Securing and Obtaining Evidence in Cybercrime, signed in Madrid, on May 28, 2014.

The objective of the Agreement is to reinforce mutual cooperation between the Member States of the Conference of Ministers of Justice of the Ibero-American Countries for the adoption of insurance measures and the gathering of evidence in the fight against cybercrime.

The Cabinet also authorized the presentation to the National Assembly of the Cooperation Agreement between the Member States of the Conference of Ministers of Justice of the Ibero-American Countries in Matters of Joint Investigation Teams (COMJB), signed in Viña del Mar, Chile, on April 5, 2013.

The objective of the Treaty is to promote efficient and agile cooperation in the fight against transnational organized crime, as well as speed in criminal proceedings, by establishing a legal regime applicable to the creation and operation of Joint Investigation Teams between COMJB Member States.
