Within the framework of the investigations into the Prestín case, the Santa Cruz Mayor’s Office announced this Monday that it will request before the Prosecutor’s Office the extension to the complaint against Vicente Sosa A., brother of the former mayor Angélica Sosafor the alleged crime of legitimation of illicit profits and illicit enrichment.
Bernardo Montenegro, spokesman for the Department of Legal Affairs of the municipality of Santa Cruz, reported that in recent days it became known that the exedil’s brother would be being investigated by the Financial System Supervision Authority (ASFI) for alleged suspicious economic movements, within the inquiries that arose in Banco Fassilwhich would have been committed in the last municipal management from 2018 to May 2021.
“It has been possible to identify that it has 233 properties for a value of more than 199 million bolivianos, in addition to having 16 vehicles”, stated Montenegro.
In a press conference, the spokesperson stated that it is presumed, after these alleged suspicious movements, that the resources used for the purchase of the goods come from the municipal coffers.
In this sense, he said that if the subject’s guilt is proven, the auction of the goods will be requested and once they are included in the process, the seizure will be requested.
On April 12, the 3rd Anti-Corruption Court, Judge Primo Flores, ordered the preventive detention in the Palmasola prison for the former mayor Angélica Sosa, in the so-called ‘Prestín’ case, for the crime of legitimizing illegal proceeds. The former mayor was sent to the prison for a period of five months, while she continues the investigation in this case.
On March 31, 2023, the Prosecutor’s Office expanded the complaint against former mayor Angélica Sosa in the ‘Prestín’ case, which followed her husband Sergio Perovic, who died last year.
Sergio Perovic died in May 2022 in the city of San Salvador de Jujuy, in Argentina. The defendant was investigated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office since February 2 of the same year, when proceedings were initiated against him for the crime of legitimizing illegal proceeds, after Javier Cedeño, former director of Human Resources for the Santa Cruz Mayor’s Office, pointed him out lend money (municipal, from supposed ghost items) to public officials.
