Military operation "Cacique Maracay" is activated to capture armed gangs from Las Tejerías

The operation to capture armed bands that operate in the area of Las Tejerías, Santos Michelena municipality in Aragua state, is strictly military. Chief General Domingo Hernández Lárez reported the arrest of a man, allegedly undocumented and who had war materiel and military supplies in his possession. In a video published by the military, a group of soldiers can be seen escorting four men, but they were not reported as detained or under investigation.

General in Chief Domingo Hernández Lárez, operational strategic commander of the National Armed Forces (Ceofan), announced the activation of the military operation “Cacique Maracay” between the coastal mountain range and Valles del Tuy, in Aragua state, to dismantle the armed bands in the area after the recent attacks on security posts in the town of Las Tejerías.

In a message on his twitter account, Hernández Lárez explained that a sweep is being made in the area to capture suspected criminals. In another tweet, he said that a man was arrested, allegedly undocumented and who had war material and military supplies in his possession.

In one of the videos published by the Ceofan commander, a group of soldiers can be seen escorting four men, but they were not reported as detainees or under investigation.

At night on Sunday, February 5 there was a confrontation between presumed antisocials and state security forces in the Las Tejerías area, Santos Michelena municipality in Aragua state, after the criminals attacked the local Bolivarian National Police (PNB) headquarters with grenades.

In addition to attacking the presidential command post, installed by the landslide last October, they seized the toll that connects with the Centro Regional Highway, presumably to prevent the arrival of reinforcements in the Las Tejerías area. After several hours, the criminals retreated to the mountains.

The armed attacks are attributed to the Tren de Aragua, a criminal gang that has spread to other countries and is based in the Tocorón prison, just over 67 kilometers from Las Tejerías; and the gang operated by Carlos Gómez, alias “el Conejo”, who gave refuge to several criminals from the gangs that operated at Cota 905, including Carlos Revete, alias “el Koki”, who was killed by the authorities in 2022.
