United Airlines resumes flights between the United States and Nicaragua

The American airline United Airlines resumed its flights between the United States and Managua this Wednesday, after almost three years of suspension due to the covid-19 pandemic.

The United Airlines airlift was officially reopened at 1:15 p.m. local time (7:10 p.m. GMT), when the Boeing 737-800, which operates flight UA1432, landed in the Nicaraguan capital from the George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, the organization reported. The source indicated that the United Airlines B738 twin-engine jet arrived at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport “at full capacity”, that is, with 150 passengers in economy seats and 16 in first class.

The aircraft traveled the 2,200 kilometers between Houston and Managua in three hours and 30 minutes, where the aeronautics union received the occupants with a party atmosphere, according to Aviación de Nicaragua.

“Finally, we tell you that 2023 brings good news for Nicaragua’s air connectivity and that is that we expect new airlines or frequencies that will strengthen our flight network,” said the union organization.

This is the second US airline to restore flights between the United States and Nicaragua in recent months, after American Airlines did so on November 30.

Since covid-19 reached Nicaragua, in March 2020, at least 245 people have died from the pandemic and 20,204 people have been infected, according to the authorities, a figure 24 times lower than those registered by the independent medical union in the case of the deceased and less than 40% in the case of infections.

Nicaragua is one of the countries that did not establish restrictions to face the pandemic.
