If the Group H series of the World Cup in Qatar was defined by the trade balancel, Uruguay would have great chances of qualifying for the next phase of the Soccer World Cup with two wins (Portugal and Korea) and one loss (Ghana).
According to a work that Uruguay XXI disclosed with the commercial exchange with the rivals of the celeste, andn 2021 the country exported US$110 million worth of goods to South Korea while imports totaled US$95 million, which determines a positive trade balance for Uruguay of US$ 15 million. Sales to Korea were basically concentrated in pulp (81%), followed by beef (12%). Meanwhile, imports to that country are more divided between auto parts (29%), vehicles (12%) and chemical substances (11%).
With Portugal the numbers also smile on Uruguay. In 2021, exports to the Portuguese country totaled US$ 66 million, with wood as the protagonist (64% of the total), followed by beef (12%) and rice (10%). For their part, imports from Portugal totaled US$ 17 million, with auto parts (18%), foundry molds (13%) and clothing (10%) as the main items. Thus, Uruguay closed that year with a positive trade balance of US$ 49 million, according to Uruguay XXI.
In red with Ghana
Uruguay’s trade with Ghana leaves a marked trade surplus (US$63 million) for the African country, which the sky-blue left out of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa in an exciting definition with extra time and penalties.
In 2021, Uruguay barely exported US$1 million (meat by-products, plastics, and seafood) to that country, while Ghana imported US$64 million. 97% of that amount was oil and the remaining 3% other food, according to Uruguay XXI.
