CNCP expresses support for intervention in Haiti

CNCP expresa apoyo a intervención en Haití

For the celebration of the 21st anniversary of the National Provisions Trade Council, a lunch was held with businessmen, trade partners and the entire CNCP plenary.

In his speech, Julio Cesar Perez Mata, President of the National Council of Trade in Provisions, took stock of the current situation of Dominican trade and highlighted the importance of Dominican-Haitian trade relations for the sector and at the same time expressed his support for the government’s call to the UN for that country to intervene .

“The importance of maintaining Dominican- Haitian, both for industry and for commerce, something that can only be achieved under an environment of peace and harmony, which is why we support and see as positive the government’s call to the UN, so that our sister nation intervenes actively and effective in this great problem, given the lack of their own capacity that allows them to get out of the current crisis in which they find themselves, even without the Dominican Republic having been in favor of any intervention, “he said.

He maintained that the seriousness of the situation in which Haiti finds itself and what this would imply in the future forces them to support the request for intervention from said country.

The wholesale leader asked the government for an effective customs surveillance for imports, which guarantees a balance between merchants, as well as the conditions of payment recession for importers, both foreign and Dominican, thus guaranteeing competition on equal terms.

The president of the CNCP asked President Luis Abinader to form a body of commercial advisers that includes the wholesalers represented in the CNCP to discuss the best way to maintain the country as an example of free competition and commercial equality.

“We take advantage of this scenario to send our formal request to President Luis Abinader, since being the wholesalers and importers of the CNCP, the main allies of the national industry, we are in a position to form a body of commercial advisers, with whom periodically discuss the best way to maintain our country as an example of free competition and commercial equality, since we are the first to know about national demand and its problems, so it is urgent that the government dedicate itself to creating that important instrument, for which the CNCP is ready and willing to work,” he said.

Pérez Mata urgently requested the government to focus on producing structural changes in the Dominican tax system, to facilitate the formalization of thousands of MSME businesses.

“Everyone knows that the high costs involved in such formalization prevent these small merchants from being motivated to do so, something that we understand is essential and necessary, since the formalization processes of MSMEs would contribute to the growth and stability of our economy” , held.

He gave as an example the announcement of the Social Policy Cabinet, regarding the delivery of the Christmas bonus of 1,500 pesos that will benefit two million Dominicans, for a total of 3,000 million pesos with which the MSME merchants who are still in informality.

«Initiative that we support and value, since it, in addition to having a positive impact on those most in need, energizes our commercial establishments at Christmas time, being of great benefit to those of us who work formally, but not so for the thousands of MSMEs informal, and that is where the need to facilitate this process lies and it is our duty to advocate for them, “he said.

The president of the CNCP highlighted the recognition, the approach, and the participation that the government has given to the sector, managing to be taken into account in the different work groups.

He stressed that it is of great pride to celebrate 21 years of effort, work, dedication and union, of men and women who believe in institutional strengthening, thus contributing to the development and growth of the country.

“Personally, I would like to call your attention so that we maintain the unity of this institution, which under no circumstances can be at stake, much less below any particular interest. This great contribution that the CNCP is for society, we must preserve, take care of it and maintain it as an example of institutionality, betting on its continuous growth and the participation of the new generations, who are called to take over from the current leaders, “he said.

The event took place in the Malecon Terrace room of the Sheraton Hotel, where important personalities from the social and business fields met.
