This Thursday, Bill 890 was approved by majority vote, which modifies Law 37 of 2009, and allows mayors and representatives to opt for the best salary they earned in the previous public position.
In this regard, the mayor of Pedasí, Miguel Batista, stated this morning that “this Law is not the right path, I believe that the local government system must be strengthened. Let us understand that citizens see this law as a continuation of paid leave.
He indicated that there are professions that earn much more than a mayor’s salary, which is a job like any other that must be paid and must be fulfilled 24/7.
“Many of the mayors and representatives already had financial commitments and now they are in serious trouble, because they entered with some rules of the game,” he explained.
He stressed that local government systems should be strengthened, to allow new applicants to have a fair salary and according to reality and work that is required.
