During the ordinary session this Thursday, the National Assembly (AN) approved a draft Agreement in celebration of the reopening of the Colombo-Venezuelan border
In her speech, the first vice president of the AN, Iris Varela, expressed that the expectation that the reopening of the border has is that it should benefit both Venezuelans and the inhabitants of the neighboring country.
“It should also benefit our Colombian brothers and in this agreement we must consider that there are still details to be finalized, such as restoring vehicular traffic at 100%,” he said.
He further noted that “with the accurate direction of President Nicolás Maduro, his resistance, today we are seeing the fruits of the reopening of the border.
On the other hand, Varela expressed his gratitude to the Colombian president. “We thank Petro for honoring what he offered in his electoral campaign,” he said, recalling in this regard that most of the presidential candidates wanted to open the border because they understood that more than benefiting them, it affected them.

For his part the deputy Julio Chavez expressed the need to maintain constant monitoring at the border.
“Today we celebrate this reopening, we are claiming before history the Miranda project and the legacy of President Chávez. It is about returning to the true path of integration, and advancing in the declaration of Latin America », he said.
He stressed that this must be a gradual and consensual process, which takes into account the migratory and security characteristics, without neglecting the presence of irregular groups and powerful US bases.
«We propose from the Assembly to accompany the process of reestablishing relations along the border through concrete public policies to establish a firm security policy. Let’s not forget that there are free trade agreements that can affect the Venezuelan economy », he said.
Similarly, deputy Luis Augusto Romero warned that now, after the reopening, a path full of snares is coming, because there are dark interests that will attack this initiative to have an environment of peace.
“The political will is present in both governments and the Venezuelan Executive must speed up the processes so that 100% are restored,” he concluded.
