The secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, who participated in the opening day of the fourth floor of the Óscar MagurnoSouto sanatorium of the Spanish Association, said that this day had a special flavor and feeling, since it is the first action of this style at the of a medical assistance service that is carried out after the great impact caused by the coronavirus in the country.
The hierarch made reference in his speech to the Uruguayan model of approach to the pandemic in which it was combined from a Government that gave shelter, took care of its people, gave direction and prioritized the health of its inhabitants to the people who were willing to try to help and thus be part of the solution. “I always say it and I want to say it today because it is the first instance we have to do it in the post-pandemic or at least in the post-Health Emergency: here there was a fundamental factor that was the health officials, doctors and not doctors, who put the fight against the pandemic on their shoulders and I want to thank them. Then the mutual institutions and the State Health Services Administration (ASSE) that also had a lot to do with it because they also put themselves at your service at all times, at all times, without measuring costs and without making an account”, he stressed.
Meanwhile, he recognized the first mutual in the country and in Latin America for its capacity for innovation and investment in human resources and technology. The Spanish Association practices, according to Delgado, “a concept, which I talked about a lot with Martínez, that we are never satisfied that has to do with a concept of quality of continuous improvement, of always going and betting on more because it offers a service to people ; the first service that must be offered to people, which is to guarantee their health. Without that, everything else is absolutely relative.” “These are part of the values that are embedded in the DNA of the officials and the board of directors of the Spanish Association,” he coined.
The secretary of the Presidency expressed that both during the first stage of the pandemic in Uruguay and during the different waves of contagion that occurred in the country, this mutual insurance company, like so many others, always made itself available to the Government to deal with this virus that hit the entire planet hard; even, “he made available the resources he could and those he could not, he managed to be at the service not of the Government, but of the entire Uruguay,” he said.
To conclude, he quoted a phrase from the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Winston Churchill, who says: “The problem of our time is that men do not want to be useful, but important.” “Churchill referred to people; I want to refer to institutions because ultimately they are a sum of people, wills and decisions made by the people who run them. The Spanish Association has dedicated itself to being useful and by being very useful to their ideas it has become something very important”, he explained.
“Never lose that value that those first Spaniards had who taught us a lot about that commitment, that perseverance and that culture of family, work, sacrifice, saving and overcoming,” concluded Delgado.
