Jailers of the Jorge Navarro Penitentiary System, in Tipitapa, beat the political prisoner for the seventh time Steve Mendoza, 20 years old, originally from the city of Masaya, his relatives denounced.
The attack against the kidnapped politician took place on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 16, one day after the family visit to the prison, known as La Modelo. It should be noted that the repeated attacks and robberies that Mendoza has suffered have been carried out after he received his relatives.

Although the family of the young opponent does not know the reason for the beating, they learned that at the time of the attack he was “serving himself a plate of food on the floor.”
“The guards arrived, opened the gate and about 20 uniformed men entered, one of them kicked him in the face,” denounced a source who omitted his name to avoid reprisals from the Ortega dictatorship.
The relatives of the political prisoner point to Mark Tellez, gallery manager seven, if he was the one who allegedly ordered Mendoza to be beaten and “robbed again of his belongings for personal use and supplies.”
“Anything that happens to Steven, the only person responsible is Marcos Téllez, because they have it against him only for being against the government of Daniel Ortega,” said a source.

The last attack against Steven Mendoza was reported on July 12 of this year, when La Modelo’s guards hit him in the stomach and face. In addition, they denounced that he was tortured in one of the prison’s classrooms; they kept him naked all night.
Steven Mendoza was arrested on March 6, 2020, when he was returning from Costa Rica, after being exiled for a year. Along with him was arrested the opponent Denis Ramon Chavarriaoriginally from the city of León.
At that time, they detailed that both citizens were arrested by the Nicaraguan Army authorities in the Peñas Blancas border area and transferred to the Directorate of Judicial Assistance, in Managua.
The Nicaraguan justice sentenced Mendoza to 15 years in prison for the alleged crimes of illegal drug transport. His family and friends affirm that the arrest is in retaliation for having participated in the social protests that began in April 2018.
