The head of the Congress of Peru, Lady Camones, sent this Sunday (08.14.2022) a letter to President Pedro Castillo in which he rejected some statements by him and his prime minister, Aníbal Torres, which in his opinion “constitute an attempt to break the democratic order” and could lead to “acts of violence”.

In a letter sent to Castillo, the president of Parliament expressed her “deep concern and disagreement” for statements in which the president and Torres apparently “call for marches by social organizations from various regions of the country to the city of Lima.”

“These unfortunate expressions constitute an attempt to break the democratic order and they would entail constitutional and criminal responsibility for the officials who are involved in said mobilizations,” warned the head of the Legislative in the letter released on her social networks.

Camones added that an eventual meeting in the capital “could cause confrontations and damage to public and private property.” and, along these lines, and in order to “prevent acts of violence,” he urged the president to order “the necessary actions to guarantee the safety” of the staff and facilities of Congress.

Camones already expressed last Thursday her rejection of expressions that, according to her, Castillo and Torres did after the arrest of Yenifer Paredes, the younger sister of the first lady who was raised as a daughter by the presidential couple and surrendered to Justice on Wednesday after a preliminary arrest warrant against her for alleged influence peddling .

Castillo denounces collusion

“If you, each one, with that energy you have, with that will you have to defend your interests, the interests of your children and your children’s children, brought 50 people each to Lima, then you would make everyone kneel. the coup plotters,” Torres said this week at a meeting with government supporters.

For its part, peter castle affirmed after the arrest of his sister-in-law that “the collusion between a part of the Congressthe Attorney General’s Office and a sector of the press to destabilize the democratic order” and “seize power illegally”.

The president of the Judiciary, Elvia Barros, also spoke about these statements by the president on Friday, denying that her institution is part of any conspiracy or political persecution against the government.

“In the Judiciary, we do not carry out political persecution, we only impart justice and apply the law“, said Barrios, who asserted that “there is a serious conflict between the Executive Power and the Legislative Power”, but stressed that his sector is not going to “enter this conflictive stage”.
