The leader of Cabildo Abierto Guido Manini Ríos and other legislators from the political sector have criticized the Justice for prosecuting Juan Rebollo. The legislators maintain that the judicial decision represents an act of “revenge”.
On July 22, the 23rd criminal judge Isaura Tórtora imprisoned retired military officer Juan Rebollo for the murders of Diana Maidanick, 22; Laura Raggio, 19; and Silvia Reyes, also 19 years old (known as the “April Girls”), which occurred in the early hours of April 21, 1974, in a house on 3098 Mariano Soler Street.
Independence and impartiality
The Association of Magistrates emphasizes once again, “the commitment of the judges of Uruguay with the principles of due process, independence and impartiality”, and recalls that whoever considers that they have not been complied with in any case have at their disposal the pertinent legal requirements to make the corresponding claims.
It reaffirms the “defense of democratic institutions, among which is the independence of the Judiciary and the validity of the rule of law.”
