Juan Bautista García Arocha, head of the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (Dgcim) in Apure, will be charged for his alleged responsibility in the death of Cicpc agent Juan Ángel Pantoja Carreño, judicial sources said.
Pantoja Carreño had been detained since July 5 at the Dgcim headquarters located in Biruaca, Apure. Two days later, his body was located in the aforementioned military establishment, placed in a bucket of water.
In the hours following that discovery, security agencies arrested two Dgcim agents identified as Yarumy Rafael Figueroa and José Carlos Flores Pérez.
And on July 19, the Apure 2nd Control Court issued an arrest warrant against the head of the Dgcim-Apure, García Arocha, to be charged with the alleged commission of the crimes of qualified homicide for futile and ignoble reasons for submersion and torture, according to official letter No. 2C-1316-22 signed by Judge Rosmery Torres Leal.
Those same crimes will also be charged to Dgcim-Apure agents Luis Alberto Uzcátegui Guerrero, Alvis Omar León Núñez, Edgar Luis Almandoz Márquez and Nixon Ricardo Mirabal Rodríguez.
The arrest warrant against the five Dgcim officials will be executed by the National Anti-Extortion and Kidnapping Command (Conas) of the Bolivarian National Guard.
