The businessman Daniel Sapelli ceased to be president of the Chamber of Commerce and Services of Uruguay (Csuy). The merchant had assumed the management of it a year ago and decided, for personal and work reasons, not to continue as head of some of the main business associations in the country for a new period. In his place he assumed, Julius Caesar Lestido, who had already led the union for four years between 2017 and 2021. Meanwhile, the Administrative Commission for the period 2022-2023 of the Ccsuy was made up of Ana Petruccelli, Anabela Aldaz, José Pedro Derrégibus and Francisco Ravecca.
Lestido is a businessman in the automotive industry (he is the exclusive representative of Audi, MAN and Volkswagen in Uruguay), and is also engaged in the arms sales business.
The Chamber of Commerce is the oldest business union in the country, groups 85% of the country’s companies and employs almost 1 million workers.
Sapelli directs the company DYD SA, dedicated to the electrical appliance sector and is the third generation of his family dedicated to this activity and is also a member of the Toy Makers Association and the Chamber of Electrical and Electronic Articles.
In businessman commented to The Observer whothat the union had asked her two months ago to continue for a new period (the elections in the union are held every year), but she declined the offer because the responsibility “demands a lot of time” and she had to attend to her own business and the time he spends with his family.
Sapelli added that the position of president of the Ccsuy requires “almost total” dedication as a result of meetings with different unions, the Executive Power, embassies, etc. “I practically already had the agenda taken until November,” he said by way of example.
The executive revealed that as a result of the “very good relationship” he has with Lestido, he will continue to work on some issues within the union in which he had begun this task to “give some continuity” to the policy that was being developed during his management.
