This initiative seeks to promote a cultural exchange to strengthen ties between countries. In the first edition Colombia will be invited and it is expected that it will be held each year with a different nation. Until this July 24, the Adela Reta and Nelly Goitiño auditoriums will offer shows and carry out cultural activities related to that Caribbean country.
In addition to the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, the event, held on Tuesday 19 in the Nelly Goitiño auditorium, was attended by the interim Minister of Education and Culture, Ana Ribeiro; the president of the Board of Directors of Sodre, Adela Dubra, and the Colombian ambassador to Uruguay, Carmen Vásquez.
During the opening, Ribeiro highlighted Colombia as an example of resilience over time, in the face of political, natural and historical challenges. He also referred to the use he has made of culture as a weapon to face adversity and pointed out that he is capable of providing lessons in this regard to the rest of the American continent. This represents a “major merit”, he maintained.
Dubra, meanwhile, explained that this activity responds to the goal set by the Board of Directors of Sodre to “be closer, in more places and more open.” In this sense, he specified that, for the first time, this body will meet in the interior of the country, in order to get closer to the artists and listen to their concerns and proposals.
In another order, Ambassador Vásquez valued the good moment that bilateral relations between Uruguay and Colombia are going through, in addition to the importance that her country gave to that strengthening.
Once the oratories were over, the authorities witnessed a musical show typical of the Caribbean nation.
