HAVANA, Cuba.- From the Combinado del Este maximum rigor prison, located at kilometer 13 ½ of the Monumental road, in the Guanabacoa municipality of the island’s capital, several 11J protesters were attacked by soldiers and prisoners collaborating with that prison last June.
According to the source (on condition of anonymity) on June 11 on the 2nd floor, north wing of building 2, an altercation took place between the 11J protester Daisel González Álvarez and one of the inmates whom the head of unit , Lieutenant Colonel Yudiel Betancourt Ramos, has granted “disciplinary” functions such as repressing and physically assaulting protesters.
The source denounced that in the middle of the dispute González Álvarez exclaimed the slogan “Fatherland and Life”, to which another group of these collaborating prisoners (whom the other inmates call “discipline”) responded with shouts of “Fatherland or Death” and they rushed at him with blows. This caused fellow protesters Yandy Hernández Montes de Oca, Juan Pablo Martínez Monterrey, Yorolkis Suárez Rojas and Lázaro Antonio (“Anthony”) Rodríguez Jerez to come to his defense.
In retaliation, the head of the unit came with the garrison, who beat the demonstrators and then relocated them to apartments for multiple repeat offenders.
The next day, the anonymous source added, Yandy Hernández Montes de Oca, Yorolkis Suárez Rojas and Lázaro Antonio Rodríguez Jerez were transferred to prisons in other provinces, while Daisel González Álvarez and Juan Pablo Martínez Monterrey remain in the north wing of the 4th floor. , section dedicated to repeat offenders.
It also indicates that on July 11, Lieutenant Colonel Betancourt Ramos, with the consent of the political police of the prison, organized a comparsa in building 2 with the “discipline” (who, according to the source, collaborate in exchange for food and perquisites as extra hours of phone calls) to shout government slogans in front of the cells of the 11J and 12J protesters, especially on the 2nd floor north wing, where the altercation took place.
CubaNet also learned that the demonstrators who have protested provocations like this have been sent to prisons in Pinar del Río or Oriente.
At the time of writing this note, another confidential source denounced that at least the protester Yandy Hernández Montes de Oca was transferred to the maximum rigor prison of Quivicán, in the province of Mayabeque.
