4-1: Boca’s scoring debut in the Cup

Boca Juniors did not have a single premiere in the Argentine Cup and had to work hard to finally beat this Wednesday 4-1 Central Cordoba Rosario, in a match played at the Mario Kempes stadium in Córdoba for the 32nd final of the local championship.

Two goals by Nicolás Orsini, one by Luis Vázquez and the remaining by Exequiel Zeballos -from a penalty- earned the defending champion from the previous edition of this competition to win against a rival that plays in the third category of Argentine football and had achieved the transitory tie through the goal of Guido Di Vanni.

The game marked the debut of the Paraguayan Óscar Romero with the ‘xeneize’ shirt and the debut of the youth players Gabriel Vega and Pedro Velurtas.

With several players who are not usually starters and after a complicated week after the questioning between the coach and the youth midfielder Agustín Almendra, Boca managed to overcome its debut in the tournament and will now await the winner of the tie between Ferro and Just Jose de Urquiza.

In the other match on Wednesday, Banfield won 3-1 against Sportivo Dock Sus after the conquests of Juan Pablo Álvarez, Juan Manuel Cruz and Jesús Dátolo, while Javier Grecco had put the loser ahead. The ‘Drill’ will now await the winner of the cross between Unión de Santa Fe and Sportivo Las Parejas in the round of 16.

Other championship results

The remaining results of this beginning of the 10th edition of the contest had recorded the 5-0 thrashing of Vélez against Cipolletti and Lanús against Defensores de Cambaceres, Colón’s 2-1 victory against Sportivo Peñarol de San Juan, Agropecuario’s victory by 2-0 against Almirante Brown and the Mendoza classic for Independiente Rivadavia 2-0 against Gimnasia y Esgrima.

The continuity of this first phase of the Argentine Cup has registered for next Wednesday the duels of Argentinos Juniors against Olimpo and River Plate against Deportivo Laferrere.
