2021 National Journalism Prize Announced in the Dominican Republic

Luna, with 73 years of professional practice, is a pioneer of radio journalism in the country, a professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, producer of the television program At 18 Hours broadcast by Teleunión and was awarded the Duarte Order of Merit , Sánchez and Mella in the Official Degree.

As it was known, the native of Santiago, province of the same name, was chosen by the unanimous vote of all the members of the jury, which was made up of the Minister of Education, Roberto Fulcar; the president of the CDP, Aurelio Henríquez and that of the Dominican Society of Newspapers, Persio Maldonado.

In addition, the executive director of the Dominican Association of Radio Broadcasters, Rosa Olga Medrano; the director of the Department of Social Communication of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, Félix Almonte and the journalists Alberto Caminero and José Rafael Sosa.

Fulcar valued Luna’s career as transcendent and said that “this is a recognition of the dignified and honorable career that this professional has carried out, and his services to the Dominican nation.”

The recognition, sponsored by the Minerd, will be presented at a ceremony led by the president, Luis Abinader, before the end of the year.
