The Barinas authorities established a “maximum alert” and are carrying out tasks to reactivate the passage for incommunicado families as soon as possible.
The governor of Barinas, Sergio Garrido, reported that last Thursday, September 8, the Las Doradas bridge, located in the Bolívar municipality, collapsed, cutting off at least 140 families who depend on the structure to connect with the rest of the state.
The incessant rains that hit the west of the country ended up increasing the volume of water that circulated in the river under which the bridge is located, suffocating its structure until it gave way.
According to Garrido, the water dragged debris and trees that were dragged towards the structure. When the foundations gave way, the bridge was left “hanging and dangerously unstable”, making it impossible to cross.

For this reason, the regional president reported that they will carry out repair work to repair the bridge, but while they are being carried out, they will also apply “emergency measures” to restore passage for the local inhabitants.
“Some bolts will be placed and the sheets that gave way in the center of the bridge will be welded and a new dredging will be done, strengthening the slope of the river on its left bank,” he advanced in statements reviewed by Radio Fe y Alegría News.
Despite the fact that he said that he would carry out emergency measures to restore the passage, he also ordered that for the time being, a maximum alert be issued and that motorcycles not be allowed to pass through the pedestrian crossing that will be created, because their vibration could end up undermine exposed slope.
The Barinas government published a video in which the community of the Caldera parish requested help from municipal, state and national authorities to recover the pass as soon as possible.
