Zapag case: Judge ratifies prison for Marcelo Fretes

One of the consequences of the pandemic (alerted by international organizations and experts), as well as the economic crisis that resulted from it, would be two of the main factors that triggered the increase in suicide cases.

In our country, the numbers support the escalation. From January to October of this year, there were 464 fatal episodes, those perpetrated by people who decided to end their lives.

With an average of 46 episodes per month in the first 10 months of the year, 2022 went on to hold, by far, the record of the last decades.

The phenomenon does not have the approach that it should have had, by state agencies, mainly Public Health.

With barely 160 psychology professionals, the Mental Health department is not enough to meet the current structure to face the suicide epidemic that is taking place throughout the country.

From what Public Health collects information about the causes, some of the triggers are mentioned.

The two years of the pandemic, with the quota of 18 thousand deaths, families broken by
deaths, or material losses that forced the sale of assets to cover medical costs and hospitalizations.

Another element that contributes to the skyrocketing of suicides states that the economic situation plunges people from various segments into uncertainty and a lack of future prospects.

An element that the numbers highlight is the one that refers to the high number of young people between the ages of 18 and 29 who ended their lives.
