Yuri Pittí on the disappearance of women: “There is a gender approach that needs to be analyzed”

He specified that men and women are disappearing, and that has been happening not since 2022, but for many years.

The manager of Planning and Evaluation of the Panamanian Association for Family Planning (Aplafa), Yuri Pittí, referred this Wednesday to the disappearances of women that have been registered in recent weeks in the country, indicating that it cannot be underestimated the fear of the people and the citizenry, that they are disappearances that have to do with crimes, because it is not alien to our region.

He specified that men and women are disappearing, and that has been happening not since 2022, but for many years. “The thing is, when we look at statistics for crimes like human trafficking for sexual exploitation, 70% of the victims are women,” she said.

She mentioned that there is a differentiated reality and a gender approach that is necessary to analyze, which does not mean that women’s lives are more important.

“In a list of missing women, 14 are located in Chiriquí. We are also talking about the fact that there is not only a number of missing women, but a concentration of more than 70% in a single province. You have to have a gender approach, but also that can allow us to understand what is happening in that province,” Pittí remarked.
