Yubelca Pérez, the liberal prosecutor who became JS

The United States sanctioned a dozen prosecutors from the Daniel Ortega regime. The list is headed by prosecutor Yubelca Pérez. The State Department notes that Pérez “undermined democratic processes or institutions by exercising prosecutorial discretion to bring trumped-up charges to imprison regime opponents in the run-up to national elections.”

She is part of the group of prosecutors that formed the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo to accuse the demonstrators who have protested since April 2018. Pérez, along with other officials from the Public Ministry, are the ones in charge of inventing the crimes for which they are accused. in jail more than 190 political prisoners.

A former prosecutor, on condition of anonymity, told Article 66 that Yubelca Pérez arrived at the Public Ministry in 2004 as an intern at an office headed by the Granada prosecutor, Juan Barrios. His job in that place was to resolve the judicial default of the tax file, the source said.

Pérez has been in the Prosecutor’s Office for 18 years, when he entered he professed that he was a liberal and over the years, and the arrival of Ortega to power in 2007, the prosecutor “changed sides” and is now part of the Sandinista Youth (JS) . She even makes up the group of prosecutors under the protection of the sanctioned Ana Julia Guido, Attorney General of the Republic.

In his social networks he published this article on the Special Cybercrime Law, the same one he uses to accuse opponents in court.

«At that time (2004) she pointed out that she was liberal and under that figure she entered the Public Ministry. In the years 2005 and 2006 she was in Ciudad Sandino as assistant prosecutor, later she held that same position in District IV until 2008. Until that year she remained with a PLC trend. In 2008 she was appointed prosecutor and was in Puerto Cabezas. She wanted to work in Managua and they never gave her the change, so she changed to the Sandinista Front line, then she was sent to Madriz and Jinotega,” said the former prosecutor who worked with her for several years.

Another former prosecutor who worked very closely with her confided in Article 66 that she “feels proud” to be part of the group close to Guido and to be one of the “trusted prosecutors.” The source assured that Yubelca Pérez is an arrogant person, with a very bad character who has been characterized by mistreating the victims.

“Yubelka is a member of the Sandinista Youth, she was in the Unit for crimes against gender violence, then she went to the Unit for crimes against organized crime. He was previously a prosecutor in Puerto Cabezas and Matagalpa before arriving at the Unit against gender violence. She has always presumed to be from the group of close friends, of which she feels very proud to be trusted prosecutors of Ana Julia Guido, “she said.

“When Ana Julia Guido took over the Attorney General’s Office, she brought her to Managua and became part of the Gender Violence Unit. Being a prosecutor specialized in gender crimes, she fulfilled accusatory functions of all the protesters who were against the Government at that time. Her job was to make the accusations, sign them and go to defend the cases in court, in the hearings that were held at that first moment of the crisis, “added the former prosecutor.

The source explained that she is very obedient to the orders of the regime. She points out that she always does what she is assigned, with the help of the Ortega judges who abide by the provisions of the dictatorial couple that keeps Nicaragua in a serious human rights crisis.

«It has been maintained because of its party identity with the Sandinista Front, because of its fanaticism and servile attitude towards the Nicaraguan regime. Given all the irregularities she commits, the sanctions (by the United States) are a small step because what she deserves is to face justice, although in the socio-political context of Nicaragua it is not possible because there is no independent justice, “said the former prosecutor.

“Partisan fanaticism makes them ignore and omit the independence (of the Judiciary). She came through a private opposition contest that diminished the quality of prosecutors and the care provided to victims. They are people who have entered (the Public Ministry) by partisan affinity », she added.

Both former prosecutors agree that when there is democracy in the country, all officials who have been involved in these cases of political persecution must face administrative and criminal proceedings for their actions against the people of Nicaragua.
