YouTube, Netflix and Facebook led internet traffic during 2021

In 2021, the average traffic recorded on the fixed and mobile internet network grew 23% and 25%, respectively, compared to the consumption made in 2020, according to data revealed by .

Among the most used services, streaming was the one that generated the most traffic during 2021. The most used applications were YouTube, Netflix and Facebook, which represent 27%, 22% and 21% of total internet traffic, respectively.

In the case of video calls or virtual meetings, the applications with the highest consumption have been Zoom, which quadrupled its traffic; Google Meet, which multiplied its traffic by 9 times; and Microsoft Teams, which tripled its usage traffic.

Movistar considers that the profile of the Internet consumer is one that demands more and more digital solutions for their day to day.

2021 marked a break for the digitization of many daily activities and the adaptation to semi-attendance, which was reflected in a greater demand for internet use, according to the company.

Since the start of the pandemic, the firm claims to have registered historical increases of up to 100% in demand on the fixed network and 40% on mobile.
