At the age of 11, the INSN doctors diagnosed her illnesses and began treatment. She was also placed on the transplant list waiting for an organ donor. After seven years of waiting, on August 29, he entered the operating room for the double organ transplant. The intervention lasted more than 15 hours and required the participation of 50 health professionals.
“I have spent seven years on dialysis. Now that I had a transplant, I feel happy for the two organs I have and I thank the doctors for their support. Thank you also to the donor and his family for deciding to donate, I thank you for giving me a chance at life,” commented the young woman.

Her father, Mauricio Asto, said that seeing his daughter go through three weekly hemodialysis was the most painful and difficult thing about living as a father. During the years when Irma was in and out of hospitals, his wife passed away.
Despite the adversities, father and daughter did not give up and today Irna is once again making plans for the future, she has decided to resume her studies and in the future become a nurse. She is ready to return home and be reunited with her six siblings.
