A 26-year-old young man, who was swimming with his partner in a prohibited area of the Santa Lucía River, drowned in the place, dragged by a strong current of water, reported the Canelones Police Headquarters.
His 23-year-old partner made it out of the water and survived. The victim, meanwhile, stopped standing and was below the surface. The incident occurred when both were trying to cross from one side of the river to the other in an unauthorized area.
A call to the police warned Firefighters, who worked at the place since Saturday, as well as the lifeguards who guard the nearby beach, but they could not rescue him.
The man’s body was found this Sunday morning a few meters from where his partner had last seen him.
The investigation is ongoing.
