The clear conclusions of the administrative investigation of the Intendancy of Canelones twisted the arm of the mayor of La Floresta, Néstor Erramouspe, who at first had refused to step aside in the face of accusations of workplace harassment that emerged from inside his municipality. The new inputs distributed in the Departmental Board motivated this Tuesday the extraordinary session to take the license that allows her to put a cold shoulder on the matter, and meanwhile attend a gender workshop.
The leader of the Communist Party “would have acted improperly”sentence the actions, with behaviors that “could fit into a workplace harassment or mobbingand gender-based harassment”. The acting instructor Noelia De Mello arrived at that conclusion after obtaining eleven statements from those involved, to which was added the support of the Legal Services Directorate of the commune, as can be seen from the 24 pages of file to which she accessed. The Observer.
De Mello consulted nine officials, the administrative secretary of the municipality and the mayor himself. The acting instructor noticed that “all the complainants are women” to link workplace harassment with gender reasons.
Two of them reported complications during periods when they were breastfeeding. “They set up a room for me in his office to express milk, but since there is so much work, it is impossible for me to stop to do it, (…) I was forced to do it because it was very inconvenient to leave homework or perhaps not schedule people at that time to express milk. I work alone and nobody can cover me, “said one. The other maintained that Erramouspe told her to” do it in the bathroom “, and that later he forced her to make up the half hour that she had destined for it.
One of the complainants said that she had to work as a person in charge of personalized attention during October, when the public is concentrated during the time of exonerations. “That means I didn’t have time to go to the bathroom, I didn’t have lunch most days, it was a world of people constantly, I would come home crying every day,” she recounted. Despite complaining about it to the mayor, he told her that “as the boss she had to be able to do it alone”, and threatened to take compensation from her, remarking that “she could do it”.
Another of them, a day laborer, recounted how on August 26, after the holiday, Erramouspe asked her if she could take him in the car, since her husband would pick her up. She replied that it was not possible, since they were going to run an errand. He insisted, and she repeated that it didn’t matter where she was going. Erramouspe told her, according to her account: “You go to the telo, sometimes I like to go and do nothing, I like to watch”.
