Yellow alert issued in 6 municipalities of Santa Cruz due to flooding of the Piraí and Parapetí rivers

The persistent rains that have fallen in the department of Santa Cruz in recent days have caused small floods in the upper and middle basin of the Piraí river, as well as in the Parapetí river, where a yellow alert this Friday morning due to the possibility of overflows in the coming days or weeks.

José Antonio Rivero, director of the Searpi Basins of the Santa Cruz Governor’s Office, reported that small floods in the stations of Bermejo, Rio Piojera, Rio Güendá and Cuatro Ojos, belonging to the Piraí river. The same panorama is seen in the Parapetí river.

We have registered more than 60 mm of precipitation yesterday in Santa Cruz de la Sierra and in the upper basin (of the Piraí river) in the area of ​​El Torno and La Angostura. Likewise, 40 mm of precipitation was recorded in the area of ​​San Julián and Okinawa,” Rivero said.

The head of Searpi Basins recommended to the population avoid any type of activity within or near these rivers where floods are reported, since the forecasts announce that the rains will continue during the next days.
