XL weekend: MOP announces toll to Luca, 3×1 and restriction for the transit of trucks on the way back to Santiago

The Minister of Public Works, Juan Carlos García, released this afternoon the details of the contingency plan arranged on highways in the face of the massive vehicular return to Santiago on the occasion of the long weekend.

“For the return of this XL long weekend we are going to have many cars returning to Santiago. As of 11:00 a.m., 435,000 vehicles have already left, this is 8% more than the number of vehicles we had projected. This means that many cars are still going to go out. That is why we are preparing to return to the capital and we invite all people to schedule their return trip”, reported Minister Juan Carlos García during a balance made at the Lo Prado Toll on Route 68.

The Secretary of State explained that: “We are going to have the main congestion tomorrow afternoon and that is why tomorrow, on Route 68 and Route 5 south, from 7 in the morning until 1:00 p.m., we will have toll to “luca”, so that all those who move forward their trip to avoid congestion in the afternoon will have an economic incentive”.

“Also, tomorrow afternoon we will have a ban on the circulation of trucks on Route 68, and that is why, so that the trucks can have compensation for this restriction, tonight and all morning the trucks on Route 68 will have a discount. of 50% in the toll”, added the MOP authority.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Traffic, Highways and Road Safety Zone, Marcela González, reported that: “During these three days of the long weekend we have had 10 deaths from traffic accidents. We hope that tomorrow, Tuesday and Wednesday, when we make the final balance of this long weekend, we will not have to regret any more deaths and that this will continue”.

For tomorrow, Tuesday 1, it is projected that a total of 155,000 vehicles will return to the capital through the five access routes. The traffic peak will be recorded on Route 68 from 12:00 to 18:00 hours; on Route 5 South from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; on Route 5 North from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Route 78 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
