The Catalan outfit finished 13 points behind champions Real Madrid, closing the tournament on Sunday with a 2-0 loss at home to Villarreal.
Coach Xavi Hernandez said on Tuesday that his Barcelona team must be rebuilt after a turbulent season, but declined to say whether he would seek to hire Robert Lewandowski.
“Next season we need to improve a lot, we’ve already improved a lot since November,” said the former midfielder who took over the team last November, when he was ninth in the Spanish league.
He added that “we are rebuilding the team. We have a plan, of course, and we need to be competitive next season. We cannot allow another season without winning titles.”
