World Forestry Congress seeks to issue legislation that will prevent the entry of products that cause deforestation

Sánchez stressed that during this congress, the organizations will make contributions to a declaration that will be issued by the governments on the state of the forests, opportunities and threats, proposals and illegal logging.

During the first days of May, the first World Forestry Congress, organized by the FAO, will be held in Korea, as revealed by Gustavo Sánchez, president of the Mexican Network of Forest Peasant Organizations.

Sánchez stressed that during this congress, the organizations will make contributions to a declaration that will be issued by the governments on the state of the forests, opportunities and threats, proposals and illegal logging.

“This is part of a process of influencing public policies at the level of our countries and at the international level. Several countries, specifically the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union, are working on legislation that will prevent the entry to those product markets that are causing deforestation in other countries,” he said.
