This Thursday, April 28, the workers of the Panama Canal will hold a march to demand a halt to the actions of the current administrator of the Panama Canal, Ricauter Vázquez, since they assure that he intends to remove job positions within the entity.

Gustavo Ayarza, a leader of the workers, assured that Vázquez sent a note in which he states that during the next 3 years, 1,437 permanent positions will be eliminated.

“We consider that the decisions of the administrator of the Panama Canal are not in the best interest of Panamanians or the country, much less in the interest of the international maritime community,” he said, assuring that in this document announcing the elimination of positions it is also established that there are currently 150 vacant positions that will not be validated, which leaves a total of 1,587 jobs eliminated.

Ayarza said that they cannot allow an administrator to make a mistake by making this type of decision that affects the proper functioning of the Panama Canal, in addition to denouncing that this interoceanic route is not currently being given adequate maintenance and precisely the positions that they want to eliminate. are those of the personnel who carry out this work on the track.
