Dario Medina, governor of Boquerón, pointed out that the aqueduct for the Paraguayan Chaco was a long-standing project that, after so many promises, in practice is not operating as it should.
Of the 228 kilometers of extension that it has from the raw water intake of Puerto Casado to the city of Loma Plata, there is an important section that is not in operation due to the deterioration of the pipe, he indicated, this because with the passage of the years has dried up.
As long as this problem is not solved, they will continue with the same situation of not receiving water in this area of the Western Region, Medina told 650 AM.
He commented that in the original project pumping substations had been contemplated every 40 kilometers so that the vital liquid could arrive adequately, an aspect that was finally not included.
The departmental chief regretted that until now the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) has not taken effective action to repair the damaged aqueduct section. “There is no one-size-fits-all solution.”
Medina warned that, in the event that significant rains are not recorded within a month, the drought could worsen due to the drying up of the water sources from which they are supplied today.
