Without major achievements in terms of corruption and transparency at the single dialogue table

After three days of recess, at about 6:30 pm this Wednesday, the single dialogue table that takes place at the Centro Cristo Sembrador de Penonomé, in Coclé, resumed the sessions, on this occasion, to address the seventh pending item dealing with transparency and corruption.

The session began with the intervention of the Vice Minister of the Presidency, Carlos García, who presented a report on how the current government administration found the finances of the State.

In most cases, the Executive pointed out that the requests of the social groups had to do with reforms to laws, with dissipations that conflict with the Constitution, audits of autonomous entities and powers that other institutions have.

The organizations are asking for a Constituent Assembly, and according to Cristóbal Tuñón, secretary general of the Ministry of Government, this proposal differs from the legal order of the Constitution. They also proposed the creation of a corruption truth commission, which would be made up of citizen members of the alliances, and the creation of a social audit council.

For this issue of corruption, the Coalition for Panama, a group of anti-corruption organizations and movements, requested to be included at the table, but have not received a positive response.

The issue of corruption and transparency is one of the last to be addressed in this first phase, in which the Catholic Church acts as a facilitator.
