In strategic sectors and for vulnerable people, the placement of the third dose against COVID-19 was advanced.
The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) reduced the placement of the booster dose (third dose) of the vaccine against COVID-19, for vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and people between 50 and 59 years old.
Third dose to people aged 50 to 59 years from January 3, 2022
This is due to the spread of the omicron variant of the coronavirus that is of community transmission in Ecuador and that is the one that currently predominates in 80% of infections.
Population aged 18 to 49
Citizens under 50 years of age must wait until they have six months from the application of their second dose or the single dose, in cases of having received the CanSino or Jannssen vaccine.
Children from five years
In the case of children as young as five years old, having been the last to be vaccinated, they still continue to complete the schedule with second doses. Therefore, the MSP will determine, in due course, the guidelines for the booster dose.
Strategic sectors
Since January 7, 2022, the application of the booster shot for firefighters, Armed Forces, decentralized autonomous governments, teachers, National Police, people on the move, garbage collectors, health workers, Red Cross and strategic sectors such as drinking water and sewerage, electricity, oil and mining, telecommunications, transportation aerial and terrestrial, it was also advanced to five months, after the application of the second dose.
Requirements
The only requirement to receive the third dose is to meet the deadlines determined by the Ministry of Health.
You must bring your identity card and the vaccination card.
People with serious illnesses must present a medical certificate that will define the type of vaccine they can receive.
In most cases, the vaccine that is placed is AstraZenaca. The vaccine mix has no contraindications, the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) have pointed out.
Side effects
The effects are not different from those of the first and second doses.
In the case of the third, pain in the arm, headache and bodily discomfort can occur. (AVV)
